Training with tiny wins

Cavoodles are usually eager learners, but they do best when training feels friendly and achievable. Think tiny wins: one cue, one short session, one clear reward. Five focused minutes can be more effective than a long session that leaves everyone tired.

Start with the behaviours that make daily life easier: name response, sit, settle on a mat, loose-lead walking, and coming when called. These basics create a shared language between you and your dog.

Avoid repeating cues over and over. Say the cue once, help your dog succeed, then reward. Repetition without clarity can teach a puppy that the first few cues do not matter.

Confidence is built through gentle exposure. Let your Cavoodle see new surfaces, sounds, people, and calm dogs at a pace they can handle. If they hesitate, create distance and reward curiosity. A confident Cavoodle is not one that rushes into everything; it is one that trusts you to guide them.

The simplest training principle is also the most useful: reward the behaviour you want to see again. Calm on the mat, eye contact on walks, polite greetings, and quiet rest are all worth noticing.
